Obituary of Gary Douglas Thorne

Peacefully, surrounded with the love of his wife and family at University Hospital, London on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the age of 75. Gary was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick to the late Douglas Waugh (2003) and Doreen Marguerite Thorne (nee Clarke) (2000). Beloved husband of Karen Clark for 30 years and best friend for 36 years. Loving father to daughter Sarah McCann (Wayne) of Sarnia; sons Christopher (Julie) of Kerwood; Aaron (Heather MacNally) of London and Matthew (Alison) of London. Proud grandfather of Emma (Lynden Evers), Chloe and Hannah McCann; Justin and Samantha Thorne; Braden and Carter Thorne and Brewer, Corbin and Lyla Thorne. Dear brother of David (Sue) of Stittsville, son in law of Frances Clark of Highgate; sister in law Elaine of Coldbrook, Nova Scotia; brothers in law Lavern (Joan) Clark of Blyth; Jim (Janet) Clark of Highgate, and sister in law Marlene (Brian) Giroux of Highgate. Many loved nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Predeceased by grandson Caleb McCann (1995) and brother Brian (2014). Always proud of his New Brunswick roots, Gary grew up in Florenceville and Frederiction. He studied Agriculture at Nova Scotia Agriculture College and General Agriculture at MacDonald College. After working as a Landscape Maintenance Supervisor at Expo 67 Gary moved to Ontario and worked 10 years as a Fieldman with the Ontario Milk Marketing Board. In 1977 Gary joined the sales team at Kernohan Motors Ltd., a small Chrysler Dealership, became owner operator in 1992 and sold the business in 2006. Always having a friendly smile, Gary was a kind and warm person with a good sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. He loved his family passionately and enjoyed retirement with his horses. Friends will be received on Friday, April 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY 519-245-1023. A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held at Caradoc Sands, 24500 Saxton Road, Strathroy on Saturday, April 28th at 1:00 pm. A private family interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to London Health Sciences Centre Foundation – CCU or ICU, Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
