Obituary of G. David Campbell
It is with great sadness the family of G. David Campbell announces his passing on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the age of 80. After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s surrounded by loved ones, David made his final journey home.
David was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, June 19th, 1941 to Chester and Beatrice Campbell. David is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Florence “Flo” (Butt). Cherished father of Bruce Campbell and Kim (John) Vlasman. Dearly loved brother of sister Elizabeth Campbell (Marcel Dupuis).
David was an extremely proud grandfather and loved nothing better than loving, rocking, playing, chasing and having fun with the little ones. Dodi as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren Nolan (Nicole) Vlasman, and Keaton (Cassidy) Vlasman. Proud great grandfather to Trinity, Amanda, Jackson, and unfortunately Dodi did not have the opportunity to meet Elsie, Melina, Maisie and Troy. David will be greatly missed by nephews, Yves (Pascale) and Dany (Rachel). He will be fondly remembered by extended family and friends who were dearly loved across Canada and the USA.
David graduated with a degree in Engineering and Brew Masters. David had an impressive career and was respected in the brewing industry for his knowledge and skills as a Master Brewer. Over the years David also worked with many breweries in Canada; Labatt’s, Keith’s, Olands Jamaica-Red Stripe and F.X. Matts Brewing company in Utica New York, before retiring to Grand Bend Ontario, to be near his beloved family.
David’s career provided many opportunities to travel the world for work and pleasure with his wife Flo. David loved the outdoors and loved nothing better than to be near the water. An avid golfer, Hockey player, swimmer, marathoner, skier, hiker, there weren’t too many sports David couldn’t do.
David especially enjoyed and was very proud to attend hockey games watching his grandsons Nolan and Keaton. Special moments of pride for Dodi. During his retirement, many daily walks with his beloved dog Tessa, and playing with family/ neighbours dogs.
David had an amazing life filled with laughter, love and fun, making memories with family, extended family and dear friends. David’s passing has left a big hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His most precious legacy is his beloved family and a life well lived.
The family wishes to thank the many, many wonderful caregivers at Strathmere Lodge for the past 8 years of incredible, care, love and support. We could not have asked for a better extended family; we are most grateful.
As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
