It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Margaret Ruth Smith of Strathroy, Ontario at the age of 84 on May 5, 2022 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Lovingly surrounded by her children, Diane Furtney (Blair) of Sylvan, Kelly Hodgins (Barry) of Lucan, Darrell Barber (Pat) of Ilderton, and Karyn Davenport (Drew) of Owen Sound. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husbands Jim Barber, Ilderton of 19 years and Ron Smith, Denfield of 20 years. She was the proud grandma of Carla Young (Richard), Craig Furtney (Jessica), Ashley McLean (Jeff), Latoya Harrigan (Grant), Brett Hodgins, Dawson Hodgins, Jim Barber, Megan Barber (Brian), Austin Davenport (Melissa), and Allison Davenport (Cole). Grammer loved with all her heart, her great-grandchildren, Teigan, Milo, Olivia, Harper, Berlin, Colter, Makenna, Theo, and Colt. Margaret was also thrilled to find out her family was expanding by two.

 

Margaret was born to her parents Keith and Ruth Douglas of Ilderton. Survived by her loving brother Noel Douglas (Maxie). Predeceased by her brother Robert Douglas.

 

Margaret will be sadly missed and always remembered by her many extended family and friends.

 

Margaret went to SS #7 Lobo Bear Creek School, Medway Highschool. She then attended the Registered Nursing Program at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. She had a successful and fulfilling career at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, working on the pediatric floor with her dear friend Irene. Margaret will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion.

 

After her retirement, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, travelling with Ron. What she truly enjoyed most was being the best mom and grandma.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff at Chartwell Nursing Home and Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital for their care and compassion.

 

Private family services will be held at this time. Interment to take place at Ivan Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made Strathroy General Hospital Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to DENNING’S OF STRATHROY.
