My heartfelt condolences to your families with the passing of uncle John. He had a long and full life. I really loved the photo tribute and especially the pictures of your mom and dad together! A serendipitous encounter 75 years ago blossomed into a lifelong bond between two families. An old neighbour, John Timmermans, has passed away at the age of 97 years. My father, Adrian "Arie" Groot, first met John 75 years ago in September 1950. They lived together for a couple of weeks in a small house on the farm of George Dorner in Tupperville, Ontario. My father was working for George Dorner topping sugar beets and picking tomatoes, but was also looking to buy a farm. Earlier, John Timmermans had hitch-hiked from Western Canada to Blenheim and was looking for a job. He found work on the Dorner farm. A couple of weeks after John moved in, my father moved out to work at the farm of Harold Eastman in Adelaide Township, near Strathroy. My father had a deal to buy the Ralph Hendra farm located next to Harold Eastman's farm as soon as the crop was harvested. Meanwhile, John Timmermans' parents, Cornelis and Dora Timmermans also arrived in Blenheim. The situation they were moving to was taken up by someone else so they moved in with John to work for George Dorner. After my father and mother married, bought the Hendra farm, the Timmermans came for a visit, saw the farm across the road was for sale, purchased it and moved to Second Line South Adelaide Township in February 1951. John Timmermans and his parents, brothers and sisters were now neighbours. The rest, as they say, is history. Old neighbour, you will be remembered.
