It is only today we learned of Mason's passing. Our sympathies to the family.
We are retired from raising and training Border Collies, but have many memories of visiting his farm, talking bloodlines, and wheeling and dealing. He was related to my Mother (Myrtle Branton Akins), and that was another topic of conversation. The stories in his books are a gentle reminder of a by-gone era.

Mason was an icon in the community. He was always sincerely interested in people....young and old. I can remember going to look at Sprucedale for my Mom's eventual move there. There was Mason.....visiting some of the residents there. He was a kind and compassionate person with an excellent sense of humour as well.
Mason will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
With sincere sympathy to the Fletcher family,
From Janice Sinker and Betsy Hanes

Our border collie puppy came from Mr. Fletcher's farm. Even though we only met him twice, he made quite an impact on us with his affable personality, interesting stories and with his engineering experiments around the farm - ranging from a perpetual motion antique water pump to a belt driven stationary bicycle with doll "pedalling". When we parted ways he gave us a copy of his book, which we enjoyed reading later in the evenings. He certainly lived a full and vibrant life. My condolences to his loved ones who will surely miss his him in this world.

Our sincere condolences to the Fletcher family. Mason was an amazing man who knew how to live life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. The resident's at Countryside Manor thoroughly enjoyed his Saturday morning visits which they always heard some wonderful stories and all the happenings that were going on in the community. He would take time with each one of them and tell them a little story or poem, which brightened their day. After Mason moved to Sprucedale our Saturdays just didn't seem the same. He loved to talk about his family, he was certainly proud of each and every one of you...that would bring a smile to his face. "Go rest high upon that mountain" Mason...thank you for all you did for others.
sincerely Heather and resident's at Countryside Manor

Mason will be sadly missed in Poplar Hill. I met him a few years ago and found him to be an amazing man. My family bought our first boarder collie from him, and Mason always came by to see how he was doing. He talked about his life that he loved so much, and of his boarder collies. He will be truly missed in Poplar Hill and never forgotten.
RIP Mason

Our 9 years on Ivan Drive were enriched by the kind heart of Mason. His open door, barn tours to meet the new kittens, the puppies, Guinea Hens, gifted hand made wooden crafts, teaching us first hand the feeling of electric fences, and stories both in print and spoken word woven from the fabric of living in a time well before the ability to post this condolence electronically, was everything a neighbor could ask for. A dream come true as we raised 3 young boys on our little slice of heaven on Ivan Drive. Rest in peace Mason, may your family feel pride and peace knowing your positive effects on the lives of others.

So very sorry to hear of Uncle Mason's passing. He was truly everyone's uncle. What a pleasure to have a visit with him last summer. When I was younger he tried to convince me that dairy cattle were just as good as beef cattle - but I remained staunchly unconvinced. The video tribute brought back so many memories. Uncle Mason shared so much of his life with so many of us.

I have wonderful memories as a little girl, meeting this quiet, gentle man, who lived down the road from me and my family. He let me help him feed his cows on occasion, always so patient, as I asked so many questions. My mom was horrified when I asked Mason what happened to his fingers, the first time we met! He was not offended, just smiled, and told us a story. One of many over the years. He will now look down upon his loved ones from heaven, as he did so much while he was alive. He will own a special place in my heart. Mason, I am a better person having known you. Bless you.
