Karen... I have known you for 38 years. Our families met when we were 16. My Dad moved our family from the city out to the country across the street from the Schalk farm near Strathroy. Our families shared many memories from those years. Everyone grew up and went off to start families of their own. Joanne Schalk Karen’s Mom, remained close to my mother Ann until she passed in 2009. Karen and I met up again later in life and resumed our friendship. Like all dear friends, it was as if no time had passed. I quickly became a part of the family again. I was a part of weddings and stag and Doe’s. As a realtor I sold homes to her children and during that process you become very close to people and their families. Karen often chatted with me over coffee or on the phone and I was so happy when I started hearing about this wonderful man named Al. It was very clear that she had found the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. My heart is with all of you as we celebrate Karen’s life. I feel your loss... Al, Mother Joanne, Children Julia and Mike. Levi, Grandchildren, Extended family Josh, Coco and others I haven’t met....Brothers John and Frank, and best friend Rene. We have all shared this wonderful connection with a New Angel named Karen.
On a lighter note, when we first met her favorite saying was, “If you aren’t Dutch, You aren’t Much”. Karen had a stubborn side at times and I would respond with another saying about Wooden Shoes... It was always good for a laugh.
