Obituary of Arthur Pontes Correia

Peacefully, at Sprucedale Care Centre, Strathroy on Saturday, July 4th, 2015. Arthur Pontes Correia of Strathroy entered into eternal life at the age of 85. Predeceased by his wife Maria dos Anjos Correia (1998). Lovingly remembered by his daughters Ruth (Tony) Alcaidinho and Olga (John) Ferreira. Loving Avo of Angela (Ed) Mota, Nicole Alcaidinho, Nathan Ferreira, Zachary Alcaidinho (Tracy) and great grandfather (Old Avo) to Erica Mota. Arthur will be sadly missed by his special friend and companion Elly Verhoeven and family. Dear brother of Jack (Lourdes) Correia, Maria do Carmo (Horacio) Duarte and Sr. Maria da Conceicao Correia. Predeceased by his brother Leonard Correia and sister Maria Jose Milhomens. Arthur is survived by over 100 nieces and nephews. Arthur was a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church and a longstanding member of the pastoral care team, the Knights of Columbus Council #7570 and a past Grand Knight. Arthur immigrated to Canada from Sao Miguel, Acores aboard the Homeland Ship, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax on April 29th, 1954. Arthur was approved to work under contract with the CN Railway. He eventually made his way to the local farming industry and was a tobacco farmer for several years. Lastly employed as charge custodian at Our Lady of Lourdes in Delaware at the London Catholic Separate School Board for 26 years. Visitation will be held at Denning’s of Strathroy on Tuesday, July 7th, 2015 from 5 – 9 pm. Prayers will be recited at 8:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, July 8th, 2015 at All Saints Catholic Church, Strathroy from 10 – 11 am where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am. Father John Pirt celebrant. Interment All Saints Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund, the VON-Strathroy or the Sprucedale Family Council would be appreciated. www.denning.ca
