Obituary of Henk Nieuwenhuizen

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Henricus Petrus (Henk) Nieuwenhuizen announce his passing on Sunday, May 29, 2011, in his 78th year, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Henk will be dearly missed by his wife, Joanne, of 47 years. Devoted father to his children, Robert (Jodie), Karen Pelkman (Alan Lynch) and David. Adored Opa of Emma, Michaela and Kurtis Nieuwenhuizen; Stephanie and Bailey Pelkman; and Alex and Rachel Nieuwenhuizen. Henk was born in Waddinxveen, Netherlands to his parents Cornelius and Wilhelmina Nieuwenhuizen. He is predeceased by three infant daughters, two brothers and two sisters. Henk leaves behind seven brothers and sisters, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Henk was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple life. His determined work ethic made him an incredible provider to his family. He took great pride in his home, which he created to be his castle and his sanctuary. Henk worked in maintenance for many years and was recognized by many as the man who could fix everything. He was an avid gardener and his harvest was enjoyed during countless family dinners. Memories of strolls through the garden with Opa will be especially cherished by all of his grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at Denning Bros. Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. Parish prayers at the funeral home at 5:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Strathroy at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery.
