Obituary of Durk Boer
After a long and courageous battle, Durk. Beloved husband for 58 years of Baukje "Bea", went to be with his Lord & Savior on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, with his family by his side. Loving father of Bill (Heather) of Olds, Alberta, Ann (Peter) Vitez of Strathroy, Harry of Strathroy, Teresa (Peter) Wilhelm of Napier, Evelyn of Strathroy, Allan (Tammy) of Strathroy, Andy (Lorie) of Belmont and predeceased by Richard (2004). Durk is survived by 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters; Rini (Ray) Black, Arend (Anne) de Boer and John (Judy) de Boer. He was predeceased by his parents Willem and Tjiske de Boer, his brothers Hette (Jeltje) and Ale (Willie), Simon and his sister Margaret (Percy). Durk worked for many years with Harrison & Martin Construction of London. Although after and throughout his retirement he continued to touch many lives with his carpentry and masonry skills. Durk enjoyed the comraderie of his fellow Lions members and was a dedicated volunteer. He celebrated over 100 donations to the Canadian Blood Services for which he was very proud. In keeping with his Christian faith, friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held Thursday, June 3rd from 2-4 & 7-9 at the East Christian Reformed Church, 476 Metcalfe Street East, Strathroy. Although cremation was chosen by Durk a memorial service will be held Friday, June 4th at 11 am at the East Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the London Regional Cancer Centre or to the East Christian Reformed Church. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Durk.
