Obituary of Edna Stott
Stott, Edna Mae (Pierce) passed away peacefully on March 23, 2010 at Strathmere Lodge in Strathroy in her 97th year. Edna was born August 1, 1913 in Glen Oak, Caradoc Twp., the eldest child of Ethelbert Pierce (1884-1963) and Mabel Pettit (1885-1956), and the first grandchild for William J. Pierce (1851-1942) and Mary Jane Marshman (1860-1922) as well as Martin Pettit (1848-1932) and Margaret F. Hutcheson (1861-1929) at whose home she was born. Edna grew up on her parents' farm at North Ekfrid where she attended S.S. # 10 Ekfrid from 1920 to 1928. She took piano lessons and with her two younger brothers, Elwyn (1915-1987) and J.C. (1916-2000) she formed Pierces' Orchestra and played around the countryside at dances, concerts and garden parties. They continued to play at family gatherings over the succeeding decades and music remains as one of their legacies. Music remained a central part of Edna's life until she was into her 80s playing for church, family, friends and London Mission Services. The Pierce family left North Ekfrid in 1935 and settled in Caradoc. Edna married on October 15, 1938 to Londoner, Kenneth R. Stott (1910-1977), son of Homer and Eluvia (Roberts) Stott, and moved to 22 Sterling Street in London where she made her home until 1997. She and Ken were active members of Centennial United Church and Edna was also involved with the Home and School Association at Boyle Memorial Public School. The Stotts built a summer cottage at Port Franks in 1957 which remains a favourite family retreat. In 1997 Edna moved to a retirement home in Thedford and then in 2000 to Strathmere Lodge. Predeceased by grandson Jeffery Stott (1976) and sister-in-law Alice Pierce (Elwyn) of Caradoc. Beloved mother of Carol and Robert Neal, Oliver, B.C. and Glenn and Lynne Stott, Arkona, Ontario. Cherished Grandma to David Neal, Mississauga, Karen Neal, Victoria, B.C., Greg Stott of North Bay, Brad and Angela Stott of London, Janine and Josh Redquest of London, and Paula and Wayne Dibbits of Strathroy. Great-grandmother of Evan and Mya Stott. Also survived by sister-in-law Alta Pierce (J.C.) of Chatham and many nieces and nephews. Private committal service. A memorial service celebrating Edna's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy (519) 245-1023.
