As a former newspaper editor and columnist in Stratford, I knew Lawrence personally for two decades. He was a larger-than-life personality who exhibited a tenacity one seldom finds in a human being. His relentless pursuit of justice in his longstanding battle with City Hall over the expropriation of his land in Stratford, the so-called Cooper site, was monumental, to say the least. A lesser man would have conceded defeat long ago. Lawrence never gave up -- and only with his passing did his quest come to an unresolved end. I wrote many articles involving Lawrence and City Hall. He was indeed, a stinging thorn in the side of many local politicians, but I think even they will lament the passing of one of our community's most colourful personalities. He believed that politicians should be accountable -- and no one could hold their feet to the fire better than Lawrence. His footprint on our community will remain long after his mortal passing. I also came to know his lovely and charming wife, Wendy, and had the good fortune to meet some of the children. That's where I found the "softer" side of Lawrence, whose love of family was always evident. I remember that Wendy often gave sound advice to Lawrence in his battles with City Hall and she provided a much-welcomed second perspective on matters. My condolences to Wendy and the children. They have lost a husband and father. And I have lost a friend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Wendy and your family. Lawrence was a great friend and a good family man which was a very important part of his life for they were always on his mind, and always part of a conversation. There was never a dull moment, if he wasn’t working on the farm he was exploring one of his many projects that he launch over the years. Your wit and loving kidding with Wendy will be missed.
God Bless you and yours
Ken, Leanne and Family

The Ryan family was a big part of my childhood. Larry and I were best friends in the primary grades and spent countless hours discovering the great outdoors in our neighborhood. I have so many happy memories of that time spent with the Ryan family. I would like to offer my condolences to his wife, his children and his grandchildren. I am sending big hugs to Gary, Stephen, Gerri-Kaye, Vincent, Terry-Lynn and their families. Hold your memories close. They will always be yours❤️❤️❤️

Wendy & the Ryan Family,
Heidi, I and the children were so sorry to hear of your loss with the sudden passing of Lawrence. He was the first one to ever offer me a job, and treat me like a man, though I was still a boy. I saw how physically preserving he was in all that he did. He always spoke of his family with great pride. I will cherish the memory of that one afternoon our families spent together on your farm.
With much love & prayers, ❤️
Peter MacLean, Heidi & family
