I know im a little late in writing my condolences. I just happened to.come across this n was crushed when i seen Mr McPherson picture . Im truly sorry for your loss . I always wondered where he had gone after teaching because i was in his History class n Geography class too. I use to hate both of those subjects until i had him for a teacher. He once told me if it wasnt for me constantly asking him questions that nobody would know whats going on cuz it wasn't cool to ask questions when u really had no clue lol . He was the best i still remember his stories about.his uncle n how he was in the War n flew a plane n died in the war n he shed a tear or two in front.of us all.. the kids use to say he was a tough teacher but a gd one n until that day i.thought the same but once he told that story i seen his true self n he was anything short of amazing. He also told us about flying a date to.the movies n parked the plane on the roof top i jst cant remember for sure if he was talking about himself. Memory isnt the best . I was in his class in 92 so it was a long time ago now but ill never forget him. He was the best teacher i ever had in high school. I never thought id like history or geography but he made it soo interesting i could never skip his class i was like a sponge trying to absorb every word he spoke. He will b greatly missed
May his soul rest n him b united with his family that had passed he was a diamond in the rough.

Having many battles on the Court, and many friendly conversations off the Court, is how I will remember Vaughan. Passionate to a fault almost, intelligent, but never condensending, a great guy. We had many a laugh at Olympia Sports Camp for more than twenty summers. Carol and family our warmest thoughts are with you at this time. Terry and Jill

Our condolences to Carol, Jana, Ezekiel and Nevaya.
Vaughan was a close friend for forty-niine years. Fondly remembered as a devoted family man with many diverse interests including coaching, golfing, wood turning, soapstone carving, coin, stamp and postcard collecting, and cars. In whatever he undertook , he was all-in and strove for excellence.
As an individual, he was very private, humble, optimistic and a joy to be around. He made many contributions to the local community and will be missed.
May he rest in peace.

It is with great sadness that Michael and I bid a final farewell to a great brother-in-law and friend. We always looked forward to our visits to the MacPherson homestead in Kerwood, whether for holiday celebrations, barbecues, or those impromptu journeys with me driving the car over 200 km while Michael did the trip to Kerwood on his road bike, sometimes with a friend, often alone. We will miss the annual/semi-annual dinner outings near the GTA which usually coincided with a visit by Vaughan to a stamp and postcard show in the nearby area. We will forever be impressed by the amazingly beautiful woodworking and sculpture pieces he created, and by his knowledge of the history of Ontario and, in particular, Strathroy, And we will miss his spirited and lively "discussions" on a wide variety of subjects. Rest in peace, Vaughan!

High school teachers/coaches are a special breed of individuals. The teacher provides guidance and knowledge, and the coach gives their spare time, without remuneration, to young people to help them learn life lessons such as time management, team work, leadership and giving forward to those following in their footsteps.
Vaughn (Mac) MacPherson epitomized the very essence of this class of individual. His love of coaching and working with young people benefited and inspired many young individuals to go on and do bigger and greater things. He will be missed but never forgotten. Thank you MAC!

When I heard of Coach MacPherson's passing, I smiled to myself while recalling his distinctive voice; always so full of energy and passion for basketball, as he continuously challenged us to be better in "his classroom," the S.D.C.I gym.
Vaughn often said that the hardest course we would ever take in high school would be "Sr. Boy's Basketball," and although Calculus and Physics might have been more brain taxing, I'm sure that my teammates would agree with me when I say that his lessons of leadership, dedication, attention to detail, and effort were much more influential on our lives.
At a time when the phrase "Mamba Mentality" is circulating everywhere due to Kobe's passing, I can't think of anyone I know who emulated it more than Coach MacPherson. He was always laser focused on the process of making us better and extremely devoted to the hard work of improving our OFSAA bound team (during his retirement). Mac spent thousands of hours studying the game of basketball. He lived and breathed it. Coach MacPherson was an inspiring story teller and his ability to connect basketball fundamentals with other sports and skill sets always kept us engaged.
Being a role player, I developed a special relationship with Coach MacPherson as he challenged me to be a leader on our team. Vaughn was a genius at identifying each player's unique skill sets and morphing the collection of those talents into a team system that maximized his player capacity.
Thank you for the lasting memories and lessons Coach MacPherson. The comprehensive little blue Sr. Basketball Playbook is safely tucked inside my coaching binder and it brings me confidence every time I lead one of my teams on the court, knowing that you crafted it.
Sincerely,
Drew Pierce

Carol, I am so very sorry for your loss. I can’t think about Vaughan without thinking about high school in the 70's. I know that Neil had great respect for him. I'd like to think that the two of them will be shooting hoops together. Strathroy will always be my 'home' and the people that influenced me will always be in my heart.
With heartfelt condolences,

My heart is broken. Mac and Carol took me into their lives when I was 18 and words can’t express the amount of respect and gratitude I have for both of them. During my 10 months with them, Mac and I talked every night after dinner and his wisdom and moral character was something I admired and tried to emulate. His impact on my life continues today and I am forever in his debt for the life lessons he taught me. I am so thankful for the love both Carol and Mac showed me. I have always remembered his kind words of encouragement and his way of looking at life as an adventure worth sharing. I am so proud of the fact that Mac shared part of his life adventure with me. I love you both Mac and Carol and while my heart hurts I will take comfort in knowing Mac was my friend. Love always, Dave Clark

I will miss Vaughan. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. From basketball to everyday life, he was always able to get his story across with a personal story that was understood. Not an easy thing to do when relating to teenage guys, however he did it well and always held our respect. My thoughts and prayers go out to Vaughan’s family, the world will not be the same without him. Dave McLean

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will sure miss Vaughan in our Friday golf group. We know its been very hard for him and you over the last years. We really appreciated him coming for dinner with all of us even when he couldn't play anymore.
John and I did not know him very well when he first joined our golf group but that did not take long. Enjoyed his company and his witty remarks. He was a good friend.
Memories will be with us when we get together in the spring.RIP Vaughan.

Carol, Linda and I are so appreciative of your sharing Vaughan with us for the past 15 years. We fondly remember our "golf sorties" throughout Southwestern Ontario and the inevitable preface from "coach"--"Are ya in a hurray to get home--I'd like to show ya something". We had so many entertaining and informative conversations whether they be historic in nature, lessons in appropriate wood species for wood turning or critiquing that last putt. He loved "Texas" not just for the climate, but the opportunity to participate in collegiate athleticism, forays into Mexico for the culture and opportunities of Progresso and his pride in his "golf haven: Harlingen Golf and Country Club. We will miss his generosity, dry wit and that glint in his eye, when he was about to tell you the honest truth about some bizarre fact. A true character of quality, courage, wisdom and enlightenment: he will be missed. Carry on good friend to your next adventure.
