My condolences to Helga, Eric, and Bernie,
I have many fond memories of Hans - especially his stories and pictures of his homeland and homestead in Latvia. Carol and I have several pieces of furniture that Hans expertly refinished for us. In particular I remember Hans and Helga providing support to the Sengthevy family when they arrived in the community as "Boat People" newcomers to Canada in 1980 and again recently supporting Syrian refugee families upon their arrival in Canada. Also their interest and financial support for our recent project in rural Haiti - in particular supporting our grand-daughter Nicole's involvement.
I will remember Hans' understanding and empathy for those who immigrated to Canada and his efforts to assist them become established in their new "homeland". A true Canadian!!
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I worked with Hans at his shop some 43 years ago when I was 15. My job was to put in a curb from his shop all the way around his house and back. He taught me that hard work pays off. I visited with him often and being a cabinet maker myself a natural bond was made and we became good friends. Many stories [mostly his..] we use to talk for hours. He was very clever when it came to his trade, thinking outside the box. I will miss him. Take care Helga,

Hans was a wonderful man to have known and worked for. He taught me the trade of cabinet maker!
He was also a friend and mentor! He will be missed. My sympathy goes out to Helga, Eric and Bernie and families. You all will surely miss Hans!

So sorry to hear of the loss of our neighbour and friend -Hans. We had some great conversations, he was a great wealth of knowledge on the history of our neighbourhood and we will not forget him. Our prayers are for Helga and Berni during this difficult time. God bless you

My condolences to Hans' family. Hans was a true craftsman. Many years ago he repaired a chair which I thought could not be repaired. It is still in use. Recently Hans took me under his wing and worked with me at his shop repairing dining room chairs which needed re-gluing. During my visits we had many conversations which I will long remember.
