Obituary of Frank Russell
Russell, Frank
July 18, 1926- April 11, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Frank Russell, on April 11th, 2021 at the age of 94. After months of failing health, he passed peacefully at his residence in Appin, Ontario, surrounded by his wife Ida of 68 years and his loving family by his side. Born July 18th, 1926 to two loving parents, John and Mary Jane Russell, of Bonavista, NL. Frank leaves to mourn his beloved wife Ida (Ada), her sons John (Wendy), Frank (Tammy), Mike (LeeAnne), Mark (Terri), Tim (Dawn), Dave (Lynda), Brian (Michelle), Paul (Cheryl), and his daughter Jayne (Bill). Remembered by Melody, Mary Ann, Vicky, Janie and predeceased by Maxine and Shelley. Leaving behind a large well-loved circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren who he cherished more than life itself. Remembered also by his brother Robert (Bob) Russell residing in Bloomfield, NL and his sister-in-law Violet Vincent of NL, and a large number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Walter, Jack, Howard, and sisters Susie and Nora. In his mid 20’s, dad moved to Ontario to become a welder on the CPR and shortly after he took his young wife to Ontario and began a long life raising nine children. Dad was the longest standing citizen still living in Appin and spent countless hours in his garage fixing things, welding, also spending hours chatting to whoever decided to drop by. There were no strangers once you were in dad’s garage. He was always there to lend a hand whenever needed. Music (accordion) and friends along with a shot of whiskey or beer never went astray and you could always count on a good story. Dad enjoyed watching curling and a good hockey game waiting for the leaf’s to win. Many Sundays growing up we headed to the river or lake with a lunch in tow and spend the day while dad fished, daring us not to speak only but a whisper for fear of scaring away the fish. His days on the lakes with his boys were cherished moments until recent years. Then just for us to be around was his favourite thing to look forward to and Saturday night cards with family. No greater love and pride could a Father show us for his family. He was there to support us in good and put us in our place when not so good. Advice was always plentiful, but never forced saying “Do what you think is right”. There was always work to be done but always time for relaxation and pleasure. Dad and mom rode and explored the lakes and countryside more than anyone we know and enjoyed being passengers when family was home to take them. There are no goodbyes in this life, just Till we meet again. Dad, your job here is done and we will take it from here. When we see that bright shining star or feel the gentle breeze on our backs we will know it’s you guiding us every step of the way. Love you forever.
