In 1989, I was a new hire of the London Police Force. As a new constable I was assigned to 4 Section. At which time, John was a senior constable. I immediately recognized his manner with regards to how he conducted himself with co-workers and the public alike. I attempted to emulate John. I never told him so, but he was a mentor, to me.
We shared a love for running. I had always considered myself to be a better than average runner, until my first run, with John. Despite, John being 27 years my senior, I had met my match. I was proud, to have run with John during the Toronto to London 24 hrs relays for the Sunshine Foundation.
Another memory I have of John is sometimes meeting him during a quiet time, while working one of our night shifts. He would often have a book, written by Douglas Reeman or another author, of that ilk.
I only knew John casually for a short 5 or 6 years. However, he was a great man who made me a better man.
Cheers, to a life well lived!!!
Deepest Sympathies, Trevor Nichols #30355 London Police (ret)

To the family I spent much time growing up with as a kid, I am truly sorry to hear of your Dads passing. Although we've all grown up and moved away , each living our own lives, I still remember the special times I spent at your house. Years later I would see him miles from home and I'd be in awe that he had run that far. My thoughts are with all of you during this time

Dear Dad, you were such a good soul in my life. Always willing to love and accept all challenges. I am so fortunate to be called your daughter in law. You brought light and joy to my life. I love you and thank you for being that father I never had. I know that you are at peace now, watching over all of us. Keep running dad to that final ribbon. You have always won every race in life. Do not worry Dad, mum is very safe with us. God speed, we will see each other again one day. I love you.
