Bob was a huge part of my life growing up in London. His daughter Julie and I were best friends. My father died when I was young and Bob filled the role of surrogate Dad for me. I had many firsts with Bob- my first moose in Algonquin, my first canoe trip, my first sweeping lesson, my first look into a pile of marking, my first slaughter of ducks, my first driving lesson. Bob was larger than life and his memories still guide who I am today. Thank you Bob for your kind and caring nature. Thank you for being concerned for my safety and never missing the chance to drive me home when I was supposed to walk. Thank you for giving me the love of a father figure.

I will sorely miss my good friend Bob. I will miss the many memories such as Stoneybrook hockey, Quebec tournament (many laughs), coffee at McDonalds, canoe trips, and many other great times. He left a great family and friends, Peter and Barb Trowhill

The day Bob passed, ironically, I was paddling down the Grand River with my nephew and his family. I thought of Bob a lot on that three hour paddle. I recalled our awkward first meeting at Kathryn Drive over a spilled beer, my first time at a canoe reunion in Bayfield (the Grunter club?), MacMillan Clan reunions with many sporting multi-coloured plaids and hearing father and son bagpipes, visits in Regina, SK including a frigid Grey Cup in 1994 and many visits in Winthrop, Maine usually celebrating Canada Day. I also recalled the pleasure of enjoying several of his famous chocolate cakes. Bob made incredible frosting!! We shared a common sign, his birthday on Christmas and mine the next day. He never once missed wishing me a happy birthday or if close by, baking me that cake.
Bob, Grandpa Bob to my children, had a quiet perseverance and we felt his love...a card or a call or a FaceTime closed the physical miles between our families. Grandpa Bob was loved and will be greatly missed. "keep plugging along" was his classic signature line in many greeting cards.
Forever in my heart or with me on a trail,
Cathy MacMillan
