Living away from loved ones makes one cherish small everyday moments with family. Whenever I travelled home to Strathroy, I knew I could find my Uncle Gerry in a Superstore isle ready to help me find my favourite snacks. And no matter how long it had been since I had last visited (days, weeks, months or even years) he always remembered what they were... Rest in peace, Uncle Gerry. My sincere condolences to Marg, Garrett and Justin.

My brother was a gem. "The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind, washed by water, and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms." Gerry met life's adversities with grace, hard work, humour, strength and resilience.
I will remember him as a loving family man who unabashedly demonstrated his love and devotion to his Margie, Garrett and Justin; as a mischievous boy/man who on one of our recent outings strolled through a toy department and found great delight activating all the singing toys and initiating an impromptu dance party to a parade of gyrating Santas singing "Rockin around the Christmas tree". (Oh how his face lit up as he enjoyed the Christmas spirit!) I will remember him as a welcomed sweet-tooth loving visitor who was most comfortable in a warm sweater, Pepsi in hand and grateful for a handful of freshly baked cookies. He was a quiet friend with strong opinions about politics, history, and society's injustices. I will remember him as a hopeful warrior determined to overcome his illnesses and return to work. Lastly, I will remember him as a gentle soul, now at peace. I will miss him dearly.
Love always, Brendia

One of my favourite memories of Gerald was watching him roller-skate !! Some of us from Zehrs went into London and Gerald and his brother Terry were "performing" for us-they were amazing. It still makes me smile.
Gerald was also a very hard-working colleague of Zehrs/Superstore for many years and he will be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of working with him.
Sincere condolences to Margaret, Garrett and Justin and all of his extended families.
Rest in Peace Gerald.

To Margaret Ann, Garrett and Justin Barrie.... My deepest condolences to your family, on the sudden and very unexpected passing of Gerald; when you asked me if I had heard about what had happened to Gerald, your words were like a ton of bricks breaking down...the wall. I will never forget the very last time I seen Justin, Gerald and yourself last week doing your normal weekly grocery shopping, Gerald was working on unfolding the second cart of groceries while Justin was reloading all the bins in the first cart; and you were in the middle running back and forth helping Gerald with finding the price matching clippings on the iPad and reloading the large items in the cart.....and all Gerald was talking about wearing his “famous Superstore Christmas Bucket Hat today.” And trying to pick out four of the 88 cents chocolate bars at checkout #7 (Saturday December 18th 2021) just before I totalled everything up from that trip around the store.
Once again my family would like to send our deepest condolences to your whole family.....especially since it’s so close to the holiday season where everyone wants and is spending time with their love ones and family. At this moment of darkness remind yourselves of all the magical and treasured memories of ALL the extra time you all got to spend since he took a leave of absence from the store earlier on this year....and ALL the “good old days as a family.”
From: Amanda ( Cashier From The Superstore.)

Uncle Gerry, aka uncle Thunder thighs. I'm not sure how we came up with that name but you and I did.
I share so many great memories with you and Auntie Marg growing up and going to church. You and I joking around like people didn't hear what we said.
Grocery shopping will never be the same for me anymore, as that when you and I had have little chats.
RIP Uncle Gerry
