Obituary of Maria Camara Vieira

It is with deep sadness that the family of Maria Noemia da Silveira Camara Vieira announces her passing on January 31, 2023 at the age of 82 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Wife of Francisco (Frank) Vieira for 61 years. Mother of Nancy (Paul) Medeiros, Darlene (John) Medeiros and David (Maryann) Vieira. Grandmother of Stefanie, Monica (Matt), Daniel (2008), Amanda (Robert), Nina, Jessica (Brandon) and Amy (Eric). GG to Norah and Eden. Sister to Esmenia (1999) (Abilio 1987) Pinheiro, Jose (2000) (Clodilde) Camara, Aires (2022) (Zelia) Camara, Heliodoro (Maria) Camara, Octavio (2016) and Odette Camara, Donatilia (Mauricio) Gomes and Duarte (Maria) Camara. Sister-in-law to Maria (2015) (Caetano 1967) Frietas, Jose (2003) (Etalvina) Vieira, Carlos (2009) (Deolinda) Vieira, Lidia (2009) (Alfredo 2004) Alves and Carlos Albert (2015) (Adelina 2015) Vieira. Tia Noemia to many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her parents Caetano and Adelaide Camara and sister-in-law Miquelina Camara.

Maria was born in Fazenda das Lajes, Flores, Acores, Portugal. She immigrated to Canada in 1961 to join her husband and start their family. After providing home day care for 10 years to many children, Maria worked at Franklin Electric for 17 years where she became Inspector of Quality Control. She retired early to take care of her grandchildren.

Maria was an avid sewer, crocheter, and knitter. She liked the challenge of jigsaw puzzles and word searches.  She learned to ride a bike and swim later in life. Maria enjoyed many years of walks through town and traveling in their motor home with her husband Frank. They planned yearly “camping trips” with their grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY on Sunday, February 5^th, 2023 from 2:00pm – 5:00pm. Visitations will continue at All Saints Roman Catholic Church on Monday, February 6^th, 2023 at 10:00am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Interment to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
