Obituary of Hubertus Wilhelmus Cornelis Vandervelden

 

It is with heavy hearts the family of Hubertus “Herb” Wilhelmus Cornelis Vandervelden announces his peaceful passing on August 9th, 2023, at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Rosemary Vandervelden for 35 wonderful years. Cherished father of Gayle (Bev) Coleman, Mike Vander Velden (Rosemary Brown), Cathy-Lynne Miller, Steve (Fran) Vander Velden, Sheri Kenny and Shawn (Tracey) Neil. Proud Opa and grandpa of Brent (Meg), Ashley (Dana), Kelly (Curt), Alex (Khadijah), Brandon, Abby, Sabrina, Keisha (Taylor) and Wesley. Loving great Opa and grandpa of Briella, Andrew, Rosie, Kayla, Taya, Leah, and Thomas. Brother of Mary (late Leo), John (Nellie), the late Annie (late Urb), Bill (Tina), Martin (Lex) and Hank (Diane). He will be fondly remembered by brother-in-law Don (Sue) Romphf, Dianne Thuss and Mike Miller. Son of the late John and Catherine Vandervelden and son-in-law of the late Basil and Helen Romphf. He will be greatly missed by extended family members and friends. 

 

Hubert was born in North Brabant, Holland and Immigrated to Canada with his family in 1953. Herb was a very active member in service of AA for 44 years. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on the Blue Jays and Montreal Canadians. Herb loved to golf and enjoyed horse racing. Herb’s career as a Car Painter, was something he was always proud of. He loved to travel, especially going on cruises. His family will miss him dearly. 

 

A visitation will take place on Friday, August 18th, 2023 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY. A memorial Mass will take place the following day Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 11:00am at All Saints Roman Catholic Church. A private interment to follow. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or All Saints Roman Catholic Church.
