Unexpectedly, on September 10th, 2023, in his homeland of Sao Miguel Portugal, Jose Antonio Paiva Da Costa in his 72nd year, passed away.

Beloved son of Ana Isabel Paiva Costa (2008) and Artur da Costa (1998).

Husband and best friend of Maria “Rosa” Costa, for 53 wonderful years. Loving father of Paula (Mike), Peter (Holly), Gloria (Jimmy), and Brian (Steph). Loved avô to Jahnessa (Mike), Marquis, Katelyn (Ilir), Kyle, Andreus, Liam, Achillius, Gabriella, Lorenzo and his “bestest” little friend, Sebastian.  A bisavô to Joesph and James.

The oldest of four siblings, Arthur Costa (2011), Emilia Correia (2018), and Lucia Silva (1990). Survived by his sister-in-law Natalia.

Jose will be remembered and missed by many nieces and nephews, his goddaughter Ana (Artur) Lourenco and family, as well as other extended family members and friends.

Jose immigrated to Canada in 1988 with his family in the hopes of a better life for his children. He worked very hard, was successful, and proud of his accomplishments. Jose was a social butterfly, and he loved to visit friends and family. He truly was loved by many. His family loved hearing him sing, and he was kind, and helpful towards others.

Jose was an accomplished wood worker and made many bird houses. He was the “Joe of all trades”, he could do and fix ANYTHING. He also loved to cook, and was quite the chef. He was happiest when playing his guitar, especially when it was alongside his brother and Dad.

“To us, he will always be 10 feet tall.”

“Dad, our hearts are shattered and our lives will never be the same, but we will continue making you proud. We hope you’re playing your guitar happily for all eternity. Until we meet again.” “Dad we love you.”

A Memorial Mass will take place on September 22nd, 2023, at All Saints Roman Catholic Church at 11am. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association or The Heart And Stroke Foundation.
