Obituary of Alexander Murray Potter
Alexander Murray Potter
September 23, 1932 –February 29, 2024
“Life has been good and it has been a good life”
Surrounded by his family during his last days and with his life partner and best friend of almost 71 years, Donna Potter (nee Rogerson).
He was appreciated by six grateful children Karen (Dann), Nadine (Ross), Kim (Dave), Dawn (Doug), Scott (Karen) and Jodi (Mark). He will be missed by his ten unique grandchildren: Charlene, Erin, Troy, Devin, Justin, Erika, Brandon, Alisha, Joseph and Emma. To his eight great grandchildren he was the “Great Potter”! Blake, Eva, Damon, Georgia, Leif, Charleigh, Greyson and Aaliyah.
“Sonni” is predeceased by his parents, Alexander Potter Sr. and Mae Potter (nee Fellows)
Alex and his father owned and operated, “A. Potter and Son Carpets” in Lambeth for 43 years.
Alex played baseball for the “Lou Ball Juniors” that celebrated an unbeaten season and championship in ’51-’52. For this, they were inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame. He fully enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies at “Camp KAJA” on the French River. A northern retreat they built together with a “nickel and a dime”! This camp became the place of many “back to basics” family vacations. Mr. Potter spent many hours coaching and refereeing hockey games in the Lambeth arena. Alex was a lifetime member of Lambeth Optimist and continued to wear his “purple” jacket with pride. He was the quintessential family man. Enjoying cottage life with friends and family on Go Home Lake. Never missing a reason to celebrate with his family that continued to fill their monthly calendar. “Mom” and Alex shared many adventures travelling in their motor home, crisscrossing North America and enjoying the journey to their Florida home for the Snowbird season. They made many special friends and enjoyed a vibrant social life. Whether in Lambeth raising their family, in Morpeth enjoying lakeside living, in Strathroy their lovely community, or in Florida. Alex and Donna had many valued friends and were grateful for them in their lives. Within their busy social calendar, Alex fit in many golf games over the years. Scoring four hole-in-one’s over his career and numerous championships on his favourite courses here in Ontario and down south at Carefree Country Club.
Please cheer his wonderful life at your nearest “Tim’s” with an Ice Capp!
A very special thank you to all the staff at LHSC – Victoria Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
Cremation has taken place. His wife Donna, the “kids”, and the rest of the family are looking forward to honouring this very special person in their lives with extended family and friends at a later date.
