Obituary of James Arthur Devlin

James Arthur Devlin
July 16, 1939 – November 19, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Arthur Devlin, affectionately known as Jim, Jimmy, Pops, Daddio, and Grumpa, at the age of 85. Jim passed away peacefully in Strathroy, Ontario.

Born on July 16, 1939, in St. Laurent, Quebec, Jim was the son of Hilda Snelling and James Devlin, and Pauline Devlin (stepmother). He was the loving and faithful husband of Shirley, the love of his life.

Jim is survived by his brother Shane (Judi) and sister Julie, his children Shawn (Judy) and Laura Lee, and his beloved grandchildren Liam James (Krissi), Emily, Tyler James, and Nicole. He was the proud Great Grumpa to little Leo, Brooklyn, and Adrian.

Jim dedicated 46 years of his life to a career with CN Rail before enjoying his retirement as a driver for VON in Strathroy. In his retirement, Jim was able to fulfill his love of travel, exploring Europe, the USA, Belize, and all over Canada. He especially enjoyed his many bus tours, where he met new friends and saw new sights.

An enthusiastic sports fan, Jim cheered proudly for his Toronto Argonauts and London Knights. He cherished Thursday nights spent with his dear friend Jerry and found deep spiritual connection and inclusion in being part of his church community where he was appointed as a Faithful Navigator of All Saints 4the Degree Assembly. He was also the Past Grand Knight of Council 7570 Strathroy Knights of Columbus.

Jim’s greatest joy in life was his family, and nothing meant more to him than his children. He adored Shawn and Laura Lee beyond measure, taking immense pride in the people they became and the love they brought to his life. They were his everything—his constant source of strength, happiness, and fulfillment. Jim’s love for them was boundless, and he never missed an opportunity to let them know how much they meant to him.

He valued the importance of keeping the family bond strong and treasured the time spent watching his grandchildren excel in their sports and lives. His unwavering love, laughter, and wisdom will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
