Words could never express the broken hearts left behind on the passing of such a kind, compassionate and loving man. So proud to call this true gentleman, (in every sense of the word) my father. Back in ‘67, he crossed the Atlantic from Portugal to Canada, in pursuit of a better life for his young and growing family. His selfless efforts to provide for his love, Antonia and his seven children, was incredulous. He endured many trying and tribulations through out his life and yet never faltered in his mannerism towards others. The door was always open, food for all and a smile. With a massive heart attack and stroke at 70, to battling cancer at 80… he fought hard to survive another 6 years, in his words…”he couldn’t bear to leave our mother alone”. Dad waited for their 66th wedding anniversary on Friday and passed peacefully on Saturday evening with wife and children by his side. Leaving us with beautiful memories of a life well lived and loved. That little girl waiting patiently on the front porch for her daddy to come home from work, just so she could carry his lunch box in and give him a hug, was just a memory then and so cherished now… til we meet again Papa Joe

Dearest Antonia & Families, I was saddened to hear of Joe’s passing. For the short time I knew him, he was a gentle honest & sometimes funny. Sitting on “THE” bench will not be the same without him. He fought a good fight. May he rest in peace.
