Obituary of Thomas Pope

At Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Wednesday January 2, 2008 after a long illness. Thomas Russell Pope, beloved husband of Helen(Gates)Pope of Strathroy. Russell was born October 10, 1926, to Robert Hockin and Ellen Isa Pope of Pictou, Nova Scotia, moving with them as a child to Halifax. During WW II, he worked at the shipyards in Dartmouth and Halifax, before coming to London, Ontario, in the 1950's where he was postal worker for 25 years. Predeceased by his first wife Joyce Edwards, and a nephew artist Robert G. Pope. Russell is survived by a number of relatives in N.S. and N.B., including his brother Rev. William Pope and family and his sister Margaret Pope, Hantsport N.S. He is survived by a daughter Lynn Pope Kyle and family; step children David Lancaster and family; Elizabeth R. Lancaster and family; in-laws Arlene Gates Perryman and family all ,of London and Wilbert Gates and family of Toronto. His remains, at his request, have been donated to medical science. Arrangements for a memorial service will be made at a later date. The family wishes to thank Rev. Jock Tolmay for his spiritual support; Dr. Wayne Johnson, Dr. David Sanders and the staff of Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, St. Joseph's Health Centre, London Health Sciences Centre, Parkwood Hospital, and Western Ontario Prosthesis for their excellent care over the past five years. If desired memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
