Peacefully at the London Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, November 22, 2003. Cameron Somerville, QC, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Janet (Parker) Aitkens; dear father of Jane Somerville and her husband David Caspari of Toronto, Mary and her husband Ernie Pennell of San Diego, Neil and his wife Jackie Somerville of Bracebridge; step-father of Jennifer Aitkens and her husband Gerry Veenstra of Cambridge, Trevor Aitkens and his wife Seeta Rampersad of Brampton. Loving grandfather of Jordan and Julian Caspari; Robert and Kristen Dixon, Alex and Jeanine Dixon, Paige and Mark Sloan, Darren and Aftain Pennell, Robbie and Jennifer Pennell; Becky, Joel and Carmen Somerville and Sacha Aitkens. Great grandfather of Colin and Aiden Dixon, Pilar and Adela Pennell and Kai Pennell. Brother-in-law of Geroge Thomson, Becky Thomson, Murray Parker and Gordon Parker. Predeceased by his father Neil Adam Somerville (1923), mother Maude Elizabeth (Cameron) Lewis (1979), son John Cameron Somerville (1972), step-father Edward Thomas Lewis (1981) and beloved wife Agnes Eleanor (Thomson) Somerville (1988). Cameron was born on April 4, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio moving to Strathroy in 1923. He was educated at Colborne Stree Public Public School, Strathroy Collegiate Institute, Unversity of Western Ontario BA, Osgoode Hall Law School L.L.B. Called to the Bar of Ontario in 1947, he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1962. He practiced general law in Strathroy from 1947 to 1987, serving the community with diginity and compassion. During that period and later, he served on Strathroy Town Council, Public and High school boards, Recreation Commission, Cemetery Commission, Boy Scout Committee, Police Services Board and Metcalfe Twsp. Committee of Adjustment. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a Life member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and Beaver Lodge #83 AF & AM GRC Strathroy. Friends will be received at Denning Bros. Funeral Home Ltd., 32 Metcalfe St. W., Strathroy on Monday, November 24th from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 20 Centre St., Strathroy, Tuesday November 25th at 11 AM with Dr. Brian McKenzie officiating. Interment in Strathroy Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
