Obituary of Edith Hegyi

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a classy lady, Edith Hegyi, at the age of 86 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital in the company of close friends, Mary and Corrie, on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Edith is now reunited with John (2008) her devoted husband of 60 years. She was also predeceased by her adoring parents Carolina and Joseph Pati, relatives in Hungary and a dear friend Louis Acs (2012). Edith is survived by her late husband's two nieces and nephews in Europe, as well as several close friends. Their love story began when John and Edith eloped in 1948 in Hungary. Their devotion and love for each other endured many hardships including concentration camp. The desire for a better life brought them to Canada, eventually settling in Strathroy. They owned and operated the Strathroy Delicatessen on Front Street for many years. While enjoying each other's company, they travelled to many countries and spent winters in their home in Florida. Their devotion and love for each other was evident in their hand holding, sitting on the sofa or waving good bye to guests. They loved entertaining. Edith was a gracious hostess, and an excellent cook. Her beautifully decorated cakes were enjoyed by many. Taking a plate of her delicious homemade soup or Hungarian pastries was always a necessity when visiting friends. The service of Edith Hegyi will be held at North Caradoc, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 8503 Scotchmere Drive on Thursday December 13th at 11:00 am with Reverend Ferenz Szatmari officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Edith's Ashes will be placed to rest at St. Peters Mausoleum in London following the service. In Lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Edith may be made by cheque to the North Caradoc St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in care of the Hungarian Ministry.
