Obituary of John VandenDool

VandenDool, John - December 31, 1921 - August 2, 2013 was called to his heavenly home in his 92nd year. Born in De Lier, Netherlands, to Teunis Cornelis and Gerritje VandenDool, he arrived in Canada in 1947 moving to Chatham, Ontario where he met his wife Hilda Krol, was a faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church, and worked in the auto industry and as a brick layer. He retired in 1986 and eventually settled in Strathroy, Ontario. Faithful and loving husband of Hilda for 63 years, kind and caring father of Tony, Orval (Brigitte), Edward (Peiting), Grace Dekker (James) and Robert (Marilena), beloved grandfather to Corinne (Gerry), Ian, Lisa, Mark, Janis (Niaz), Jonathan, Ryan, Jordan and Emmy, and great grandfather to Tristan & Sydney. To countless others he was a dear friend, brother-in-law and Uncle. John was a gentle hard working soul who made a wonderful life for his family. An avid skater who didn't hang up his speed skates until he was nearly 80 years old. He leaves a legacy of love, wisdom and kindness fondly acknowledged by family and many friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the EAST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH , Metcalfe St E., Strathroy on Monday August 5, 2013 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm where funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 6, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastor Derek Bouma officiating.
