Obituary of Richard John Thomas Caverhill

It is with sadness we announce that on Monday, January 30, 2017 Richard John Thomas Caverhill passed away suddenly at his home in Strathroy, Ontario at the age of 74. Rick had recently moved from his beloved Sprucedale Orchards, near Ilderton Ontario, where he grew the best apples in the land. Rick was born on December 8, 1942 to George Arthur Caverhill and Elizabeth Jane (Jennie) Ideson in St Lambert, Quebec, where George was stationed with the Air Force. On October 6, 1973 Rick married Beverly Jane Rand, in Yarmouth, N S. Rick enjoyed baseball and grew up playing shortstop for South Lobo;(apparently they always beat North Lobo.) In his younger years Rick loved music and played in a band, which is how he met his wife, Bev. Rick received a degree in education and taught school for awhile but it was in the orchard where he was comfortable. He was a quiet man with a generous heart. He was a long-time member of Doric Masonic Lodge and served many years on the executive. Rick was pre-deceased by his father, George and his mother, Jennie. Rick is survived by his wife, Bev, brother-in-law Fred Rand (Catherine) nephew Gregory, niece Victoria, and will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Cathy Smith (Alan) and their children Matthew, Ryan and Elizabeth who have fond memories of times spent with Rick in the orchard, garden and squeezing cider. Friends will be received at DENNING'S OF STRATHROY 519-245-1023 on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 AM, reception to follow.
