William Murray Metcalfe passed away peacefully at Extendicare Columbia Forest, Waterloo on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the age of 89. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley in 2014. Loving father of Shelley (Stephen Nantes), Kitchener; Sherry (Robert) Swim, London; Randy (Kathy Behrendt), Waterloo; Cynthia (Daniel) Heisler, Cultus Lake, B.C. Cherished grandfather of Julia Nantes (Brent Dawe), Stephanie Nantes (Steven Long), Ainsley (Alex)McCarthy, and Reid Nantes (Hannah Scott); Mark Swim (Victoria Augustus), Laura (Alex) Nolan, Megan (Alé) Escobar; Ashley Heisler (Cameron Longfellow) and Brydan Heisler. Great Grandfather of Everly, Siobhan, Rosamonde and Sydney.
Dear brother of Glenn (Skip) Metcalfe (Joan, 2014). Brother-in-law of Mary Ellen (Dean, 2019) Anderson, Nancy (Blake, 2015) Anderson, Paul and Betty Anderson, Steve and Pat Schultz. Missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Allan and Alice Metcalfe.
Murray was born on April 27, 1935 in Toronto, Ontario. As a young teenager he moved with his family to Forest. He met his future wife while attending high school in Forest. Murray and his brother, Glenn owned and operated the Forest Home Bakery for 38 years. In his retirement Murray enjoyed travelling, RVing and making lovely wooden intarsia pieces.
Murray was a resident of Columbia Forest Long Term Care for just over the last year. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers in Forest and Waterloo who made Murray’s life easier.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 16th at 11:00 a.m., at Denning’s Funeral Home, Forest, Ontario. Reception to follow. A private family interment to be held in Beechwood Cemetery.
